field sites:
Jemez Mountains and VCNP
Western Montane environments
Summary/Goals: Quantify linkages between water, carbon, and nutrient cycling over a range of ecosystems to develop a predictve understanding of how climate or vegetation change will affect water balance
Activities and outcomes during past year:
Continued the development of a new environmental observatory in the Rio Grande Basin in New Mexico. This observatory includes three eddy covariance sites, eleven stream gages, 18 sap flow sensors, numerous lysimeters and soil moisture probes, a new snow pillow and cosmic ray sensor, 13 stream gages, several met stations, and collection of biomass, soil, and water samples from sites in NM.
We also completed a special issue in the journal Ecohydrology (October 2008) describing the results from our observatory.
Plans for the upcoming year:
We will continue operation of the eco-hydrological environmental observatory in New Mexico while building and strengthening linkages to other observing efforts in the western U.S.
We will explore the potential for a second special issue describing the further results from these efforts
