Summary/Goals: The project intends to provide NPN with web-based modules for volunteer data entry and visualization. NPN works with several phenology monitoring networks (e.g.,Project BudBurst, the Lilac/Honeysuckle Program, and Monarch Watch). They also recruit many thousands of volunteer citizen scientists, mostly to monitor phenological phases of plants in their backyards. In the future it is intended to also provide a wildlife monitoring service.
Activities and outcomes during past year:
--2008
In 2008 the budget proposal was submitted to NPN. This proposal was accepted and in mid-October work started to coordinate and create a plan of work. Several tele-conferences were scheduled during this year. On these meetings it was decided that the highest priority was the Data Entry module. The plan is to have this module ready by mid-February of 2009. All the requirements for this module were specified during these meetings. Also in 2008, several recommendations of changes were made to NPN about their website. These recommendations were intended to make the website more user-friendly.
Plans for the upcoming year:
During 2009 we expect to release the Data Entry module by mid-February. Jake Weltzin will be coordinating with his team to publicize the new application on the media. The Data Visualization module will be released by the end of June.
