Summary/Goals: To increase the use of isotopic techniques in hydrology by making available in one place information about the theory, practice, and costs, as well as a variety of case studies. Multiple approaches to the information are designed to meet the various needs of different groups. Also to provide curriculum material for high school science teachers.
Activities and outcomes during past year:
This Web-based service was substantially expanded and improved during 2005 as a result of additional funding and a workshop among world experts in the field funded by UNESCO. Enhancements included a set of case studies illustrating practical applications in developing countries, expansion beyond isotopes to include conservative tracers, and better linkages between the sections. These enhancements are reflected in both the SAHRA and G-WADI Web sites.
Plans for the upcoming year:
The site will be further enhanced by making the database on labs searchable, and by increasing the current set of 10 case studies to 50.
Organization Involvement:
A United Nations initiative under the Education, Science and Culture office working to support water resources researchers and managers in semi-arid and arid environments.
