Summary/Goals: The SAHRA Hydroarchive software exchange site was developed to allow the creators of hydrologic software to share their work with the general public. It offers researchers, practitioners and students the opportunity to give a larger audience access to their products in a more structured manner and, at the same time, allows them to benefit from the achievements of others. Use of individual software is allowed with acknowledgement, and depending on the individual terms of use. We hope that this initiative will lead to a greater interaction between researchers, practitioners and students within the hydrological community.
Activities and outcomes during past year:
The Hydroarchive Web site was operational as of late 2003 and has been introduced through an article in Hydrological Processes. A link to the Hydroarchive has been included on the International Association of Hydrological Sciences web-site.
Plans for the upcoming year:
More software will be solicited for posting, and we anticipate receiving more offers of software. A mechanism for vetting offered software and its documentation will have to be established. An email notification service to alert people when new software has been posted in their area of interest is contemplated. Outside support is being sought to maintain and enhance the service.
