Global Water News Watch

SAHRA sponsors a searchable database of articles on water issues in all areas of the world. It is updated daily and includes a variety of topics ranging from climate change to policy to technology to water quality. Brief, one-paragraph summaries are provided in English with links to the source publication. Original articles are published in English, Farsi, French, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish.

This database can be an excellent resource for middle school, high school, and undergraduate students investigating current issues related to water. Teachers may also find this database to be a useful resource for preparing thematic units or student assignments. Anyone can sign up to receive e-mail notification of news stories related to topical or geographic areas of interest.

Possible classroom applications:

  • Identify current water quality issues in Arizona and test local surface water for similar parameters.

  • Integrated teams (math, science, English, social studies, foreign language?) collaborate on a unit on international water issues.
