Summary/Goals: This project seeks to facilitate local collaborations between students, volunteer monitoring groups, state and local agencies for the purpose of re-energizing the spirit of scientific discovery and inquiry in the classroom. In particular, our goal is to promote long-term student and volunteer monitoring of rivers and riparian areas by building sustainable partnerships between students and local watershed experts.
Arizona Rivers is looking for teachers, students, citizen scientists, and student organizations (scouts, 4-H, FFA, science clubs, etc.) who are interested in partnering with volunteer river monitors and local watershed experts to:
·collect water quality data
·investigate riparian ecology and habitats
·monitor stream restoration efforts
·create student-based research projects
Activities and outcomes during past year:
- Student interest in the environment and riparian systems,
- Student-based research projects and skills
- Greater collaboration between AZrivers and volunteer monitoring organizations all over AZ
- Classroom focus on riparian ecosystems
