Initial emphasis will be on central/southern Arizona watersheds.
Summary/Goals: The intention of the project is to develop a 3D visualization of a regional watershed demonstrating the hydrologic processes, the associated regions, and impacts of urbanization, agriculture, and industry on the natural watershed from mountain top to delta.
Activities and outcomes during past year:
2007: We have made slow but steady progress in preparing the first three modules in this series: Verde Watershed fly through, What is a watershed animation, Water cycle and Watersheds. We are currently working on a recharge and runoff module. Next on the schedule is a unit on how landuse changes affect watershed and runoff behavior. We are currently limited in the amount of time our animator can work, which limits faster progress. The simulation of clouds proved to be the most challenging animation so far.
Plans for the upcoming year:
2006: The main work of the project will take place in 2007 and will include evaluation, software development, and integrating data sets into the visualization mock up for mid year piloting with students and teachers.
2007: John will do more pilot testing during spring 2008.
